Bay Area hillside landscape architect

The greater Bay Area region’s many hillside building sites present stunning design opportunities. I relish the challenge of transforming these steep sloped sites into inviting outdoor spaces. I create outdoor rooms through use of retaining walls and features such as fireplaces, firepits, or other features. My role is to blend my technical knowledge with your vision to design an innovative outdoor living space. I identify the scope, create the concept, and then pull in the requisite consultants. As a landscape architect, my skillset overlaps with both your architect and civil engineer. I offer experience in foundational design, grading and drainage, and hardscape in addition to plant selection, including native and drought-tolerant plant options.

I’ll help you navigate the complex permitting process for hillside landscape projects. In addition to landscape architectural plans, hillside projects require multiple experts to secure necessary permits. Architectural plans, stamped by a landscape architect, are often a requirement for a city or county permit. (Also see “Landscape Plans for Permit”) Engineers submit plans and calculations stamped with their engineering stamp. I often interface with geotechnical, civil, and structural engineers as well as surveyors. I can recommend qualified engineers and surveyors, or I can work with your existing team.
